Rockezine 2002.

1. Well, some of our readers probably never heard of ORDO ROSARIUS EQUILIBRIO, if you would introduce them to your band and music you would say…

Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio is the uncompromising serenade of Equilibrium on the illusive boundary of conjectural extremes; abstractions incapable of existing and withstanding without the polarity of the other. The unity of Love & Hate, War & Peace, Light & Dark, Woman & Man, Male & Female, Life & Death etc,. etc.

Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio is the aesthetic portrayal of balance and imbalance through the equipoise and opposition of polarities; Equilibrium in attempt to obliterate conceptual opposition and make two become one, and Roses through the essence of perfection, life and beauty.

2. The last time I had the chance to see your band was at Eurorock (2000) and you proved that a combination between, drums, electronics, spoken word, video images and erotic (with the woman in the back) can create an intriguing show. Are these show elements still in your upcoming and current shows? How important is it for you that a live show got visual aspects as well?

Some of these elements are still utilized, whilst others have been forsaken, replaced and refined.
Performing live we try to present an act that is aesthetically affiliated to the philosophical, spiritual & aesthetic aspirations of Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio; whether it is akin to contemplated irony, eroticism and/or militia; further accompanied by drums, banners and flaming fires.
But as we are still investigating the possibilities and disadvantages with regard to performing live, and still are learning about the necessary constituents to appropriately succeed according to our aspirations - the performance will most certainly evolve as we proceed.

And in conclusion I can merely say - Do not expect anything, and you won't be disappointed.

3. What was noticeable as well, was that you read the lyrics from a book… At first you got the impression that you've made the lyrics too difficult, but the longer you listen it gets clear that your way of presenting fits perfectly in the music. It almost seems a caricature of a priest? Your lyrics sound pretty philosophical and it touches some deeper,
controversial, grounds. Where do you get your inspiration? Books, movies, own experiences?

When did I ever read lyrics from a book? Although I have considered the possibility on numerous occasions, I have always decided not to, so please enlighten me further?

The inspiration of all my inherent creativity surges from the experiences, contemplations and observations of life as it manifests before me, alongside the absurdities it withholds - frustration, compromise, lust, debauchery, deception, stupidity, conflict, ignorance, misconception, indulgence, restraint, understanding, violence etc., etc.
But collateral forms of aesthetic accomplishments have surely and naturally inspired my past, present and future as well - films by Tinto Bras, Peter Greeneway, Andrew Blake & David Lynch - photography by Richard Kern & Christophe Mourte - and literature by Daniil Charms & Aleister Crowley to mention but a few.

4. Have to admit that the fact that 'war and sex has an intimate connection' like stated on "Make Love, And War: The Wedlock Of Equilibrium" made me realize that it's true. It also shows that your way of writing lyrics can also be misunderstood (especially if people only listen to lyrics like: 'And All Over The World People Shall Rise Against
Each Other'). Aren't you afraid of this?

Being misunderstood is an intermediate issue relative to the situation of being alive.
There is always the contemporary possibility of being misunderstood, labeled and categorized as the great Satan, as soon as you manifest and/or declare anything outside the periphery of what is considered to be politically correct, and/or as soon as you utilize words and concepts unfamiliar to the greater extent of the people who confront your accomplishments; and accordingly, dispensed and categorized according to the sovereignty of the contemporary sociopolitical mentality.
As far as you anything to say, you are always at risk of being misunderstood. So in order to avoid the risk and/or situation of being misinterpreted, you better speak very clearly, or shut up.

5. I ask you, because there's a discussion going on about the neo-folk scene and if its right winged or not. It seems that people think that when they clothe like some Germans in the 1930's and 40's they can shock the world (and they apparently do)… How do feel about this?

Dressing in any uniform and/or particularly categorized manner is by all means a matter of seeking to distinguish and separate oneself from the mediocrity of the masses and declaring your belonging to a particular grouping of likeminded people.
The situation is certainly identical if we observe and scrutinize the goth community, the punk scene, the leather gay community, the fetish scene and/or the heavy metal scene; just dissimilar as a result of the music, the context, the ideology and the imagery being dissimilar.
The situation is not particularly strange, nor especially alarming, whether the dress code is camouflage or PVC, just the result of a cultural phenomenon manifesting itself.
Taste and tactfulness will probably be argued in order to question the appearance of particular manifestations; but this is rarely a criterion as far as any manifestation is concerned. Beauty rests in the eye of the beholder. So it has always been, and so it shall ever be.

If girls would dress in short skirts, stockings and high-heels, I would surely be happy, and if men would dress in suits, shirts and tie, it would by all means be commendable, but how people dress and exert themselves is not an issue I concern myself with.
If people want to dress in camouflage and/or gothic costumes for the purpose of manifesting their individual personalities and ego, it is seemingly and willingly their individual decision; it is merely unfortunate and coequally delusional if they dress according to premeditated standards and regulations and correspondingly apperceive themselves as unique in a context where everyone appears and behaves identically.

6. Let's go back to the music… you've realized with the two albums of"Make Love, And War" a new creation. Instead of Ordo Equilibrio it became Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio (with the 'marriage' with Rose-Marie Larsen instead of Chelsea Krook). Was it a painful divorce and a pleasant marriage?

The marriage was pleasant and the divorce was retrospectively unavoidable.
Chelsea resigned her participation by reason of various personal disparities; but as the intrinsic essence of Ordo Equilibrio is I and I still withstand, its is quite natural that Chelsea's departure has not affected ORE in any conspicuous or substantial way, past, present and/or future.
The female essence of ORE has however been restored and refined by virtue of Rose-Marie; an outcome I am personally quite pleased with.

7. Why did you decide to release two albums, instead of one? Now there were a lot of critics by the fans that the albums both clocked around the 38 minutes (with intro and outro) and that it could have been one album as well…

In the beginning there was the intention to make ONE album titled Make Love, And War, but during the recordings of this work we suddenly realized that the song material that we possessed, was too extensive and too complete as a whole to start dissecting, but likewise too extensive to congregate as merely one single work; and there were consequently three available alternatives - One, to start compromising with the entire idea and dissect the material against better judgment; Two, to turn Make Love, And War into a DCD (a record format I strongly detest); or Three, act according to Rose-Marie's suggestions and turn "Make Love, And War" into a sister work of two akin but individual released works; and which ultimately became the resolution we embraced, turning Make Love, And War into 'Make Love, And War, The Wedlock of Roses', and 'Make Love, And War, The Wedlock of Equilibrium', as to signify the Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio and the Wedlock of Roses and Equilibrium.

I personally believe that any musical work extending beyond the time frame of 50 minutes is too long, and I am hence pleased with the decision to turn "Make Love, And War" into two individual works instead of one work far beyond 60 minutes.

8. When can we expect some new material from Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, I mean a new full-length album?

Following our last scheduled concert in Stockholm on November 11th, and following the long awaited release of '4 Life 4 Love 4 Lust, And Roses' (within the next few weeks as far as everything works according to plan), we intend to initiate the realization of our sixth full-length work; an accomplishment which I hope to complete and hopefully publish at some point during the first six months of 2003.

9. You're out on tour the next few months. You play in Germany (Tübingen), Rome (Italy), Vincenza (Italy) and Vienna (Austria), will there be more or are these four shows are all there is for now?

My immediate ambitions are to complete one last and final selection of performances before an extensive and well deserved vacation far away from any sort of appearances anywhere.
The present schedule extends through Germany (Tübingen 25/10), Switzerland (Lausanne 26/10), Italy (Rome 30/10, Vincenza 01/11), Austria (Vienna 02/11) and finally Sweden (Stockholm 16/11).
